Rooted in This Land
The Hagman family has farmed this stretch of since 1974, when Cal Hagman planted the first Zinfandel vines on the rolling hills of our estate.
What began as a small farming operation — cattle, hay, and a few experimental vine rows — slowly shifted as the vines proved themselves. By the early 1990s, the family had committed entirely to grape growing, selling fruit to some of the Central Coast's most respected producers.
From Growers to Winemakers
In 2008, the second generation — led by Erik and Sarah Hagman — decided it was time to bottle their own. The first vintage was 200 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon, made in a converted barn with borrowed equipment.
Today, Hagman Vineyards produces roughly 1,200 cases annually across five estate varietals. The approach hasn't changed: low yields, dry-farmed where possible, minimal intervention in the cellar. The land does the work. We just pay attention.
